The most breathtaking beauty looks from the Met Ball Gala 2015

Diane Kruger HERO.jpg

Much like the dresses at the Met Gala, the makeup and hair also tends to be fairly experimental.

At this year's event, while being a tad tamer that previous, many an A-lister opted for striking beauty looks.

From Beyonce's gravity-defying ponytail to Jennifer Lopez's over-the-top blusher, we take a look at our favourite styles from the night and how you can recreate them.

Emily Ratajkowski

Bold smokey-eyes and pink lips

Emily Ratajkowski

This is a classic red carpet look but it's not always easy to get right yourself at home, which is why many an A-lister has the help of a makeup artist to get this sultry vibe. However, there is a great tutorial (here) to show you how to do it at home.

Jennifer Lawrence

The messy bun

Jennifer Lawrence

This might come as a bit of a surprise but getting the perfect messy bun is actually pretty hard to achieve. For that ideal undone look you have to have a couple of things: dirty hair and patience. Jennifer Lawrence's might have look completely thrown together, completely with kirby grips on show at the back, but it will have been much hardy than it looks, trust us on this. Thankfully, we've found this brilliant how-to guide on creating this very look.

Emily Blunt

Slicked-back hair

Emily Blunt

Slicked-back quiffs aren't for everyone. Not only can it make a face look a bit harsh but they also require a supermarket's worth of hairspray just to stay in place. And then there's still a danger you'll end up looking like 'wet head' Ross Geller. But fear not, this tutorial is the ultimate how-to guide.

Lily Aldridge

Purple lipstick and barely-there eye makeup

Lily Aldridge

The most important aspect about this look is that it requires flawless skin. While it might not seem like much, to really pull it off you need to ensure there's a good foundation. Here's a great step-by-step guide on how to get incredible skin before applying your purple lipstick. Top with a dark lip such as this Tom Ford one. Also make sure you follow this dark lip tutorial to ensure it stays in place.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Blue eyeshadow

Whatever you think about SJP's Philip Treacy headdress (we're divided in the office), you can't deny that the woman has some guts to go all-out. She even went pretty full-on with her green eyes. Here's a great tutorial on how to get that look

Alexa Chung

Classic eyeliner flick

Alexa Chung

Not one to deviate too much from her usual look, Alexa opted for her traditional cat eyeliner flick, using Eyeko's eyeliner (well, it would be rude not to, considering she's the creative director). As a base she used  NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation and also the Audacious Mascara in Brigitte. While you'll need to master the art of creating the perfect eyeliner flick (fail-safe tutorial here) the taupe shadow and pink lipstick really set off the whole look.

Jennifer Lopez

Over-the-top blush

Jennifer Lopez

This look isn't exactly one you can imagine wearing for when you nip down to the shops but it is fantastic when you want to make a statement on the red carpet or perhaps for a special night out. J-Lo's gone for a full-on blush look, with her eyeshadow and blusher practically merging into one. Makeup artist Wayne Goss has given you five different ways to wear blush in this brilliant tutorial

Behati Prinsloo

Geometric eyeliner

Behati Prinsloo

The geometric eyeliner look was big for spring 2014, seen at the likes of Roksanda Ilincic and Missoni, and model Behati knows just how to tone this look down to make it ideal for the red carpet. It makes your eyes pop and the bold statement means you don't have to worry about big hair - you can go much more pared down. We love makeup artist Lisa Eldridge's take on the geometric makeup look.

Beyonce Knowles

The high ponytail

Beyonce Knowles hair

Other than her very sheer Givenchy gown last night, which was basically a naked dress save for some strategically-placed jewels, the other thing everybody was talking about was Beyonce's hair. The often blonde, occasional brunette, had decided to go full-on peroxide for the Costume Institute's bash, which looked incredible against her skin. But what really gave it the knock-out edge was the style - a vertiginous ponytail. To get this look, without looking like Vicky Pollard, follow this ace tutorial.

Diane Kruger

A curly ponytail and red lipstick

Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger never gets it wrong. Fact. She often appears on the best dressed lists and for good reason; she never plays it totally safe but doesn't go so far out you're confused as to what she's come as. For last night's Met Ball, she wore an incredible Chanel outfit and had the ideal hair and makeup to pair with it. Firstly, she opted for red nails courtesy of Chanel's Coquelicot red varnish and she also went for a deep red lipstick from Bite Beauty. Her side-swept parting ponytail with a little curl was created by her much-loved stylist Perrine Rougement. To get a similar look, take a look at this tutorial, just remember to wear your hair down the back, rather than on the side. Finally, finish by placing a sprig of lily of the valley flower.
