Chanel launches Indian-inspired make-up range

When Chanel showed their destination-themed Métiers d’Art collection back in December, we fell in love with Karl Lagerfeld’s Paris-Bombay mash-up.

Now the fashion house have released the accompanying make-up collection – and the metallic hues have got us dreaming of exotic climes.

Entitled ‘Bombay Express’, the collection of powders, kohls and the soon-to-be-cult nail polish were designed by Creative Director Peter Philips to conjure up “a specific vision of India”, from “Surreal princesses from an idealised empire” to “the scent of jasmine” and “lavishness of the Maharajas”.

The graphic black eyeshadow ILLUSION D’OMBRE Mirifique (£23.00) was inspired by “Indian beauties” who “know how to enhance their noble almond-shaped eyes…with kohl and dark eyeshadows”. Other pieces include a gorgeous shimmery gold powder ROUTE DES INDES DE CHANEL (£48.00), to dab onto cheekbones and eyelids (see below), the powder embossed with the motif of a rare piece of bronze brocade from an Indian-influenced collection created by Gabrielle Chanel in the 1960s.

Our favourite is the pale gold and silver nail polish inspired by Diwali, the Festival of Lights (£18.00).

Chanel’s polishes always gain cult status – so be prepared to see this on everyone’s toes this summer.

The Limited Edition Bombay Express collection will be available exclusively in Chanel boutiques, Harrods, Selfridges W1, Selfridges Manchester Exchange, House of Fraser Glasgow and Fenwick Newcastle from 27th June 2012.
