Chrissy Teigen pays for young woman to go to beauty school

A woman who couldn’t afford to enroll at beauty school was left stunned when Chrissy Teigen stepped in to pay for her tuition.

Mercedes Edney, from North Carolina, is a skincare expert who has been running her own organic beauty company, Ixora Botanical Beauty, since 2012.

She desperately wanted to go to beauty school to achieve her dream of becoming a beautician but couldn’t afford the $7990 (approximately £6444) fees, so she launched a kickstarter campaign to help raise the funds, writing that she wanted to “further my skin care knowledge by getting my licence in aesthetics”.

After a month, she had only raised $400 (£322) of her target, so she decided to tweet out a link to the fundraising page (below) with the hope of reaching her goal.

Within minutes Teigen, who follows the skincare expert, had donated $5605 (£4506) – enough money to cover her entire enrollment and tuition fees.

“I’ve seen this be your passion for such a long time now,” she wrote on the page.

“So excited to see you fulfill your dream!”

Unsurprisingly, Edney was thrilled by the donation, and took to Twitter to share her gratitude with the model.

“THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!” she wrote.

“I don't even know how else to thank you right now.”

Overwhelmed with gratitude, the beautician-in-training took to Instagram the next morning to share a photo of the receipt of her downpayment for her enrollment.

Writing that she had “been crying all night” and “cried in the office this morning as I paid my downpayment”, she added that she initially thought the payment was a “glitch”, until she realised the donation came from Teigen herself.

“I haven’t been this happy in a very long time,” she wrote. “Thank you Chrissy and thank you to everyone else who voted or rtd my link or have supported me this entire time.

“It means more to me than you'll ever know.”
