Cuddle core: bunny yoga is the latest fitness trend to go viral

If there's one thing that'll have us skipping to the gym it is this.

A yoga studio in British Columbia, Canada, has paired the zen qualities of yoga with the cosy cuteness of bunny rabbits in their latest class.

The idea came about when a board member of charity Bandaids for Bunnies, who is also a regular at the studio, Sunberry Fitness, joked about it with owner Julia Zu.

The area of Richmond in B.C. has a rabbit overpopulation crisis and the goal of the classes are to find homes for the rescued animals and to raise awareness about them.

Of course the class of 27 women and 10 rabbits got on like a house on fire.

“People really enjoy it,” Zu told Canadian Metro. “A lot of them can’t have pets at home because some apartments don’t allow pets, so it’s a way for them to be close to animals.”

She told Buzzfeed News that at first the bunnies stayed close to their cages. But “as soon as people started posing on their mats the bunnies starting running”.

“They like to choose their human. You’ll have two or three girls in the room and the bunnies really like their mats.”

While some bunnies chose to explore the space and roam around, others congregated next to few yogis in particular.

We imagine holding a pose while fluffy little friends join your mat is quite the challenge, not to mention a test in self restraint.

The studio held its first bunny yoga session last November and after its sell-out success they decided to host another class last weekend.

Their next installment will take place on 20 March and is a special edition for Easter.

“(The bunnies) made a lot of friends and we got a lot of interest in adoptions and fosters,” Janet Keating, a representative from Bandaids for Bunnies, told Metro

“With rabbits being a prey animal, they’re a little bit skittish, but we take rabbits that we know are going to be a good experience for the class.”

Together, the sessions have raised more than $1,000 (£699) for the charity.
