Henry Holland: "Another beauty line? Watch this space!"

Henry Holland launched his first beauty line this year - a colourful collaboration with Boots that saw bath products, nail polishes and make-up bags emblazoned with his famous tongue-in-cheek slogans. We caught up with the designer to find out if there were any more beauty projects in the pipeline, his style tips for the party season, and his plans for Christmas.

We love your collaboration with Boots (the house-shaped nail polishes especially)! How did the beauty line come about?

I have been wanting to create a House of Holland beauty collection for some time now and when I began the conversations with Boots it all seemed to fit together. I’m so thrilled with the results!

What inspired some of the pieces in the range and how did you decide what to include in the collection?

I design my collections with a London girl aesthetic in mind and I very much took this approach to beauty. I wanted to create something that reflected what House of Holland is as a brand.

Name three pieces from the Boots line you would give as Christmas gifts – and who you’d give them to.

I think the House of Holland Banging nails kit would be great for teenagers and I’d definitely go or the House of Holland Body Bag for my most stylish friends. I also love the Betty & Walter range from Boots, which has been designed by Lisa Stickley-Levi, I think the Sumptuous Selection of Bubbly Bits would be perfect for my mum!

Will there be another line with Boots in the future, or any other future collaborations next year?

Watch this space!

Is beauty an area you’re looking to move into more with your brand?

Absolutely, there are lots of opportunities in the beauty arena.

What’s been your career highlight of 2012, and what are you looking forward to in 2013?

2012 has been a crazy and exciting year for House of Holland. I have visited lots of countries around the world for work - highlights being Shanghai, South Africa and Australia. We have produced more fashion films, produced three womenswear collections and of course working with Rihanna (on Sky show Styled To Rock) was amazing.

Was there a fashion ‘moment’ or trend that defined 2012 for you?

The Olympics was pretty amazing for Great Britain as a whole and I love that they recognised British Fashion as part of the closing ceremony.

As we’re in the midst of the party season, what kind of party looks (on women and men) do you think look great?

I generally think people look best when they are comfortable in their outfits and don’t try too hard just because it is the Christmas party. Avoid flashing bow ties at all costs! My essentials are some shoes that ideally don’t give you blisters and a tonne of stamina.

What are your plans for Christmas?

I will be spending Christmas in the sun for the first time. I shall be on holiday in the Maldives with my boyfriend.

What's on your Christmas list?

A French bulldog. I have wanted one for ages and absolutely love them, we already have one dog in the office so it would be nice to have another to keep her company. Failing that I wouldn’t mind a Cartier Juste un Cleu bracelet in gold.

Any New Year’s resolutions?

I always break them by January 3rd so I think probably best not to go there!

Henry Holland's collection for Boots is in store now and online at boots.com, priced £10-25.
