This is the £3 beauty product we’re buying every single second

There’s no denying it: French style is famous the entire world over. We’re positively obsessed with the notion of natural elegance, carefully dishevelled hair and effortless chic.

As Typhaine Augusto of the Cuillère à Absinthe blog puts it: “When wearing something really chic, we go easy on the make-up, and if we’re wearing only a shirt and a pair of jeans, a red lipstick does the trick.

“We don't really show off; we like simplicity.”

Essentially, she’s saying “do nothing and still look incredible”. But, to the French, the phrase “doing nothing” apparently actually means “focus on amazing skincare, and don’t worry if you look a little undone”.

No wonder, then, that this cult French beauty product is so popular that one bottle is sold every single second across the English Channel. And you can bag a bottle of it for a nifty £3 at your local Boots.

Say hello to Avène Eau Thermale.

This soothing mineral-rich spray is infused with zinc, which aids the production of antioxidants that combat damaging free radicals in the skin.

And it’s used for just about everything: it is said to soothe sunburn, allergies, razor burns, diaper rash, insect bites, irritations, hair removal and anti-acne treatments.

It can also be used to complete morning cleansing rituals and set make-up. And, of course, plenty like to spritz themselves with it on hot days, as well as to rehydrate skin on long-haul flights.

Of course, there’s one other French product we can't get enough of, too - and, again, it's a hard-working multi-tasker.

Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré Nourishing Moisturiser

The Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré Nourishing Moisturiser is a little more expensive at £20 – but, again, it’s proven to be incredibly popular in the UK, with one bottle selling every 20 seconds.

Dubbed the “24-hour miracle cream”, this cult favourite has proven to be incredibly popular with Hollywood stars (think Gwyneth Paltrow and Karlie Kloss, to name but two), and it’s found its way onto countless photo shoots, and television and film sets internationally.

So what does it do? Well, pretty much everything, to be honest. Primarily, it’s a moisturiser, but it can also be used as a primer, moisturising face mask, after-shave balm, and make-up remover.

Rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins, Embryolisse “provides the skin with nutrients and water for its balance and helps protect it from aggression”, which purportedly helps to plump it, smooth it and banish all signs of dryness and discomfort.

Hmm. If you’ll excuse us a moment, we’re just nipping out to the shops. Au revoir!
