With her fearless individuality and statement-making hair, we've known for some time that Marge Simpson is a bona fide style icon.

So it comes as no surprise to discover that eponymous cosmetics brand MAC has created a makeup line in homage to the legendary Simpsons pin-up.

A first glimpse of the ten-piece collection has now been revealed (below), with a special preview of it set to go on sale for one day only during this year's Comic Con in San Diego on July 26.

The first signs are encouraging, with an eyeshadow palette in four suitably lurid and Springfield-like shades - including Beehive Blue.

There's no hint yet of the obligatory yellow body paint, but fans can help themselves to a bright pink blush or Marge's token fluttery fake eyelashes.

The collection, which also includes nail stickers and lip glosses, officially hits the web on August 28 and will be available to purchase in select stores from September 4.

But what does the doyenne of Springfield - and the Simpsons clan - herself feel about the makeup line?

"They’re all so great, but I must say that Lisa’s Spikes really works well with my skin tone and of course, Beehive Blue complements my hair perfectly," Marge proclaimed in a statement to Mac.

It's not the first time The Simpsons' iconic mama has inspired creative tributes in pop culture. Since the launch of the cartoon in 1989, she's been immortalised in everything from lego to banana sculpture form.

Long may her and her mile-high blue beehive reign, that's what we say...
