Treat your skin to a custom face mask: Stylist's beauty team try homemade multi-masks

Mask_rt.jpg

Given the popularity of multi-masking (applying different masks to separate areas of the face according to varying skin concerns) it’s no surprise there has been a 22.8% rise in the sale of face masks in the UK. But if your beauty cabinet is looking bare, it’s easy to make your own. Stylist shares our favourite homemade mask recipes – leave on skin for 10 minutes, then wash off and go.

Best for: dry skin

Recommended by Stylist’s beauty director, Samantha Silver Mash half an avocado into two tbsps of plain yogurt and a splash of olive oil and then apply to the driest patches. The fatty acids and vitamin B in the avocado boost moisture, while lactic acid in the yogurt sloughs away flaky skin.

Best for: oily t-zone

Recommended by Stylist’s beauty assistant, Annie Davies Squeeze half a lemon into 1 tsp of baking soda, add 1 tsp of raw honey and apply to the forehead, nose and chin. The viscosity of honey helps to dissolve excess sebum, the lemon nibbles away at dead skin cells and antibacterial baking soda will leave skin squeaky clean.

Best for: tired eyes

Recommended by Stylist’s beauty editor, Shannon Peter Blend half a potato with a quarter of a peeled cucumber (excellent at cooling skin) before gently patting under the eyes, no closer than 1cm from the socket. The astringent properties of potato mean it’s brilliant at reducing fluid retention.
