The truthful make-up tutorial everyone's loving: “Don’t know what it is or what it does”

We’ve often imagined the commentary for our own make-up routine, were we to suddenly find a career 2.0 in beauty vlogging: “At this point, I like to furiously try to blend the foundation that’s somehow clinging to my eyebrow…”

But imagine no longer – comedian Tanya Hennessey has nailed the mismatch many of us have between our cosmetic intentions and our realities (at least on an everyday work morning) in a new video.

Beginning with primer she doesn’t understand but felt intimidated into buying, Hennessey takes us through her cosmetic prowess step by step in the clip, which you can watch in full below, saying: “I don’t know what it is or what it does but it was very expensive so I continue to use it.”

On contouring, she encapsulates many a woman’s go-to stance on new beauty trends (aka a mix of enthusiasm and laziness) when she explains: “I don’t really know how to do that, so I just give it a go.”

Moving on to eyeshadow later in the video, she says: “I do this darker thing, then I try to blend it together with... I have no idea.”

Hennessey is very happy with her brow handiwork

With comment on foundation’s ability to really enhance a ‘tache and finishing off with Chapstick and a bit of classic fish gape to show off the results, her “realistic” tutorial has clearly struck a chord, racking up millions of views on Facebook and YouTube.

Despite the many warnings about washing our make-up brushes, we’re still all basically Hennessey. And we’re fully on board with a woman whose YouTube ‘about me’ section states: “I recently (and unsuccessfully) campaigned for adults to be able to order children’s meals in cafes and pubs.”
