If you Google New York’s darling-about-town Michelle Violy Harper you’ll be struck by two things, almost immediately.
Firstly, her overwhelming sense of style is both imposing and surprising – a feat in itself when Gaga and Guinness et al are ferociously raising the extreme style stakes on an almost weekly basis. Secondly, in stark contrast to the way she dresses, Harper is the very poster-girl for simple feminine lips in glorious hues from candy pink and burnt orange to glossy blood reds. They’re the beauty shades of the season and they’re always topped off with her trademark bowl cut scraped into a haphazard topknot exposing her razor-sharp cheekbones to the glimmering light.
Harper is the perfectly rosy breath of air that we’ve been craving right from her beautifully uncontrived tumblr that acts as a snapshot of her artistic mind; through to her businesswoman credentials (she’s on the board at various philanthropic and fashion associations and beauty brand Tata Harper.) But what we’ve seen in Harper, that so few of her contemporaries truly master, is her perfect amalgamation of East End London street style with all the poise and grooming of a downtown socialite. Look no further for this season’s beauty icon – Harper has arrived.
