Kate Hudson was a picture of glamour with her… More details
Kate Hudson was a picture of glamour with her 1970s style up-do. Umberto Giannini Artistic Director Paul Gooch explains how to get the look:
1. Use a pin tail comb to separate hair into two sections - hair in front of your ears and hair behind your ears. Take the back section of hair up into a high ponytail on the very top of your head. Where you position the ponytail will be where your up-do will sit so take some time to get a height and position that suits your face shape. You might find it easier to turn your head upside down to get the hair to fall on top well. Secure the ponytail with a snag free band.
2. Section the hair in front of your ears into three sections, one which will be your fringe section and two and three the hair either side. Take one side of hair from the front section and draw it up to join the ponytail as tight up to the band as you can. For a clean, sleek sweep use the ponytail comb to get all the strays slicked back and up to join the ponytail. Umberto Giannini Beauty Secrets hairspray spritzed over sides at this stage will help hold the look.
3. Pull all the gathered up hair through the centre hole and secure a hair donut close to your head with hairpins so it is really secure. If you have fine hair, backcomb the plume of hair a little to help you position it around the donut. Spread the hair around the donut until it is completely covered tucking in the ends of the hair underneath using the end of the pin tail comb and pinning in place.
4. Take the remaining section of hair at the front and depending on your hair length, you have a few choices. If you have a fringe then a small quiff works well or a simple roll back or side sweep that’s secured with grips from behind. For longer hair drag straight back to the ponytail and smooth with hands and pintail comb then secure with grips.
The Umberto Giannini Up-Do Hair Styling Kit is £12 from Boots.

This catwalk trend has hit the red carpet, with Poppy Delevigne and Sacrlett Johansson seen wearing the style. Bree Davie, Director, Trevor Sorbie Hampstead explains how to get the look:
“First, you will need to prep your hair; spritz Trevor Sorbie Beautiful Curls Beach Hair (£5.10) through the hair when dry to create texture. Now, to create your plait, begin at the nape of the neck. When plaiting the hair, ensure that each section of the hair that is added to the plait is pulled underneath. Work your way around the head until you reach the start and secure with bobby pins. To ‘fatten’ the plait, you could also rub sections with your thumb and fingers, pinching it to give it more texture and a more ‘unstructured’ finish. Set the style with hairspray.

Brush hair into a high ponytail using a pure bristle brush (try the Denman D825). This will help to tame static hair and gives a smooth and shiny finish. Tie the ponytail with a hair band (such as the Hair Gallery Snagease Hair Bands). Use two hairbands for very thick hair to ensure it stays secure. Take the ponytail and split it in to 2 pieces. Then twist the two pieces together in to a rope twist, pulling it quite tight. Once you reach the end twist it back on itself to form a bun. Pin the bun securely with pins to secure the hair; you will only need a few to keep the bun in place. Finish by spraying liberally with a firm hold hairspray.

This is a quick up-do you can create without redoing your hair with heat. Once you have it mastered you’re good to go for parties and any special occasion.
Get the look: The look works best with dry shampoo. For best results, section it off, put the dry shampoo in and then blast it out with a hair dryer. Take two sections at the front of the head and one section from the crown, and pin them out of the way. Put the rest of the hair into a ponytail, and add a little bit of texture with a gentle back brush. Once you have done this, take the hair by the ends and fold it underneath and pin it with curby grips, securing it to the head. Take the top piece, bring it into the middle, take the two sections at the side and pull the sections into the back of the hair, Do the same thing all around until it’s secure.
