The top six scalp products for healthy hair

hero-use.jpg

We give our hair our undivided attention, but our scalp rarely gets a look in. Yet it’s this delicate and finely balanced piece of skin that dictates how our hair behaves. Get it in tip-top condition and amazing hair will swiftly follow. There has been a deluge of new scalp products lately and these are Stylist beauty director Joanna McGarry's six saviours.

Prickly Pear balanced Scalp shampoo

£29, Touché by Flavien

Prickly pear oil is a pricey ingredient but this shampoo is definitely worth every penny. It calms sensitised scalps while it moisturises, and the musky scent lingers on the hair.

Exfoliating Scalp Mask

£5.25, Philip Kingsley

This gently sloughs flakes away without stripping any natural oils. Gently massage into your hair, leave for 10 minutes and rinse before shampooing for maximum exfoliation action.

Magic Elixir

£25, Kiehl’s

The natural oils in this silky unguent rebalance the scalp, hydrating dry areas and absorbing grease. Apply a pea-sized amount before shampooing. It can also be rubbed into overly dry and parched ends.

Essential Scalp Drops Purifying Blend

£29.50, Shu Uemura

If your scalp has been overloaded with product or overheated by hairdryers, you need something to bring it back to a state of calm. This clever pre-shampoo oil does exactly that.

Scalp Treatment

£23.99, Nioxin

This product is collagen filler for your hair. The natural and chemical ingredients plump the hair from root to tip, while improving the quality of the skin around the hair follicle.

Initialiste Advanced Scalp and Hair Concentrate

£40, Kérastase

This super serum is filled with a stem cell derived from apples that not only helps to achieve optimum scalp health but also manages to tame frizz.
