Lazy day brunch styles in three easy steps

brunch.jpg

One of the undisputed delights of holidays is their potential for long, languorous brunches.

Endless happy hours can be whiled away over a platter of deep fried calamari with garlic and lemon mayonnaise in Mallorca, say, or  oeufs meurette at a Parisian riverside bistro.

Round it off with a carafe of coffee and a moreish book, and we’ll be forever content.

But such time-honoured experiences require an elegant hairstyle or two, to really pull off with aplomb. Not anything that eats up our precious holiday time, mind – they need to be low-maintenance.

Here, multi award-winning stylists Jamie and Megan Stevens of Jamie Stevens Hair share their tips for elegant holiday brunch looks.

The husband-and-wife  team are hairdressers in residence for The X Factor and their clients include Stella McCartney, Kylie, Elle MacPherson and Little Mix; so between them, they have a wealth of knowledge on the hottest looks around.

“Adding accessories are a brilliant way of creating instant impact,” says Megan. “You can turn a normal pony into a dressier one by adding a ribbon around it, which I'm really loving at the moment. It just looks effortlessly cool.

“Keep your pony midi or low and not too tight, pulling strands out around the edges to add texture and softness. ”

Read on for more of their three-step advice for fabulous brunch hair:

Soft curls

hair

From Jamie:

Step one: Tong the hair in big sections.

Step two: Tip your head upside down and spray with dry shampoo for texture.

Step three: Tuck the hair behind your ear for a chic feel or loosely pin the sides, while leaving a few soft textured curls through the front.

The low pony

ponytail

From Jamie:

Step one: Leave the fringe area or loose tendrils out, backcomb the crown area. Then pull your hair together to make a loose pony below the crown, and secure with a band.

Step two: Using a soft brush, smooth over the backcomb to tidy.

Step three: Take a small piece of hair from the pony and wrap around the hair band to conceal it.

The sleek bun

Bun

“Pulling your hair in a middle-parted, low sleek bun is a quick way for a look that delivers instant impact,” says Megan.

It couldn’t be easier to achieve, either – here’s how:

Step one: Pull your hair into a low ponytail.

Step two: Twist the hair around and up.

Step three: Add a few Kirby grips to secure.
