Trend on trial: bridal hair

Sometimes a beauty look is so pretty, it steals attention away from the clothes. That was the risk taken at Dolce & Gabbana and Zac Posen, where Posen’s lead hairstylist Odile Gilbert twisted and pinned hair before adorning it with silk flowers. “This is post-coital wedding night hair,” she said, but are these floral tributes just for brides? It’s time to put them to the test.

Samantha Flowers, Stylist’s Beauty Editor Says:

At NYFW, Zac Posen was one of my favourite looks. In the city of ‘no-style hair’, beauty journalists were thrilled to see Gilbert brandish curling tongs and a heap of silk flowers. I’m all for it. Except my fine, short hair wouldn’t hold the pins so I opted for Dolce & Gabbana’s take on the trend; a just-as-pretty yet slightly easier headband. It felt more maid of honour than smoking-hot bride though. Sad times.

Evie Leatham Stylist’s Beauty Director says:

Weaving flowers in your hair is up there with carving hearts into trees. Call me unromantic but it’s just too dreamy. No-one takes you seriously when you appear to have been wrestling with cherry blossom. I’ve decided blooms are best left decorating my house rather than my head.

Verdict

It’s a mixed reception. A wedding seems like the natural habitat for this hair where flowers can be embraced with abandon. But with your weekend boyfriend jeans and T-shirts, these blooms are too saccharine sweet for our liking.
