BAFTA Make-Up: Get the look

Mingling with Benedict Cumberbatch, getting our make-up done and sipping glasses of champagne...no, we weren't on our way to a red carpet 'do, but we did get a glimpse into the manic prep beforehand when MAC invited us into their glamorous suite at the Corinthia Hotel for the BAFTA Academy Television Awards.

As the Official Make-up Partner of the event, MAC's make-up artists were on hand to make sure a whole host of TV VIPs were red carpet ready - from Australian actress Melissa George, to Best Actress winner Emily Watson, Upstairs Downstairs star Claire Foy, This is England actress Vicky McClure, as well as TV presenters Clare Balding and Alex Jones.

They (and later on, Stylist) were in the hands of MAC's senior artist Caroline Donnelly, who noticed the stars went for a softer look to cope with the current heatwave:

"Tanned or not, this years looks were about tan-relevant and tan-related shades to accentuate the lips, cheeks and eyes. Skin being the ultimate canvas, with hints of creamy copper and coral lips"

One of our favourite looks created by the MAC team was Melissa George, who went for a peach lip and thick flicks of eyeliner to complement her oriental-style Armani Prive dress.

Here's how to get Melissa's look:

  • Prep the skin by using M∙A∙C Oil Control Lotion and Prep & Prime Skin Visage.
  • Apply M∙A∙C Studio Sculpt foundation, Pro Longwear Concealer and finish powdering the T-Zone with the Prep & Prime Powder.
  • Using M∙A∙C’s Extensive Pink eyeshadow on the eyelid, highlighting and blending up to the brows with M∙A∙C’s Crystal Avalanche eyeshadow.
  • Finish off the eye with a soft feline eyeliner using M∙A∙C’s Blacktrack eyeliner and Zoomlash mascara.
  • Melissa’s lips were prepped with M∙A∙C’s Prep & Prime Lip Primer and the Lip Liner in Lasting Sensations created the perfect shape. Finish with the M∙A∙C tinted lip conditioner in Gentle Coral.

Another look we loved was Alex Jones, who we saw dashing out of the suite in a bright yellow Ariella Couture dress as we arrived. She also opted for a feline eye and pinky-coral lip.

Here's how to get Alex's look:

  • Prep the skin by using M∙A∙C Mineralize Charged water Gel and Prep & Prime Skin Visage.
  • Apply M∙A∙C Studio Sculpt foundation, Pro Longwear Concealer and finish powdering the T-Zone with the Prep & Prime Powder.
  • M∙A∙C’s Mineralize Blush in Solar was used to contour.
  • Using M∙A∙C’s Honey Lust eyeshadow on the eyelid, highlighting and blending up to the brows.
  • Finish off the eye with a strong eyeliner under and above, using M∙A∙C’s Blacktrack eyeliner and Zoomlash mascara.
  • Alex’s lips were prepped with M∙A∙C’s Prep & Prime Lip Primer and the Lip Liner in Lasting Sensations created the perfect shape. Finish with the M∙A∙C Vegas Volt lipstick.

Feeling the heat ourselves when we arrived at the MAC suite at around 5:15pm, we also decided to go for a softer make-up look. Caroline evened out our (slightly burnt!) skin with M∙A∙C Prep + Prime and M∙A∙C Pro Longwear Concealer, then gave us thick sixties style lashes and pale peach blush, paired with a What a Blast! Longwear pencil for a coral lip. Here's a photo of the finished look.

We weren't quite red carpet appropriate in our summery playsuit and sandals, but getting a sneak peek into the make-up suite (and seeing Benedict Cumberbatch close up) definitely made us feel like a TV star.
