Model Winnie Harlow celebrates her “unique beauty” with an empowering nude selfie

Winne Harlow’s level of self-confidence and self-love is so contagious she’s now asking (and inspiring) other women to celebrate their “unique beauty” too.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday (17 August), the model shared a ‘nude’ photo of herself with her millions of followers.

“The real difference isn't my skin. It's the fact that I don't find my beauty in the opinions of others. I'm beautiful because I know it. Celebrate your unique beauty today (and everyday)!”, she captioned it.

Having already received over 500,000 likes, Harlow’s post has quickly become the body-positive message we all needed this summer.

The Canadian – who shot to fame after her stint on America’s Next Top Model – has a skin condition called vitiligo, which causes patches of skin to lose their pigment, and according to the British Skin Foundation “affects about 1% of the population”.

In an interview with Elle Canada last year Winnie – her real name is Chantelle Winnie – spoke of growing tired of constantly having to talk about her skin condition.

“I’m very sick of talking about my skin […] I am literally just a human. I have the same brain as you; there’s a skeleton under my skin just like yours. It’s not that serious.”

But this has never deterred the model from continuing with her body-positive activism. Back in 2015, in an interview with The Guardian, Winnie discussed the importance of celebrating diversity.

“If humans want to see the same types of people over and over that’s what industries will give us. If we want to see something different that’s what they’ll have to give us,” said Harlow.

“People used to put me in a category with [albino models] Shaun Ross and Diandra Forrest. That is segregating. I don’t want to be put in a category.”
