Adele’s world tour dress is breaking all kinds of stage rules

Adele tour dress by burberry.jpg

Have you seen Adele’s controversial world tour wardrobe yet? She staged a marriage proposal on the very first night, so we’re sure you caught at least glimpse of her sparkling frock during that brilliant scene.

So what do you think? Are you as shocked as the rest of the world, to find out that Adele will be wearing one dress, and one dress only for the entirety of her 100-stop tour?

It’s certainly a break from the popstar norm.

Adele world tour Burberry dress

During her 2013 Mrs Carter world tour, Beyonce slipped in and out of around 10 different costumes created by a bevvy of top designers, including Emilio Pucci’s Peter Dundas, Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, Ralph & Russo’s Tamara Ralph, David Koma and more.

Jennifer Lopez routinely does something similar, with around 12 costumes (all trimmed with Swarvoski crystals) currently appearing in her All I Have Las Vegas show, while Katy Perry has been known to change outfits a (surely) record-breaking seven times during one single song.

The speed with which these ladies whip off one outfit of and shimmy straight into another is impressive, of course, but is it really necessary?

Adele seemingly doesn’t think so. Which is why she appears to be sticking with just one, particularly dazzling, tour outfit.

Custom-made by Burberry’s chief creative officer and CEO Christopher Bailey, the 'Adele dress' has been cut from black silk and hand-embroidered with floral sequins.

“It is a huge privilege to work with Adele,” Bailey writes in a statement about the already famous frock. “She is an incredible artist who I admire enormously for her approach to life, her sense of fun, her innate style and her massively powerful and moving voice and performance.”
