Alexandra Shulman to step down as editor of Vogue

Alexandra Shulman has announced that she will step down from her role as editor of British Vogue this summer.

In a statement released by the magazine this morning, Shulman said editing the fashion bible had been “one of the greatest privileges”.

The 56-year-old, who has edited the magazine for almost 25 years, and helped it celebrate its centenary last May, said her career at the publication had been “everything I could have wished of it”.

Addressing why she was leaving the magazine, Shulman added, “It has been very hard to find a rational reason to leave what is unquestionably a fascinating and rewarding role but last autumn I realised that I very much wanted to experience a different life and look forward to a future separate to Vogue.”

She also thanked Nicholas Coleridge and Jonathan Newhouse, the President and Chairman, respectively, of Conde Nast, for allowing her to look after the “precious cargo that is Vogue” and giving her “the freedom to do the job exactly how [she] wanted”.
