Ah Titanic. This was the movie that not only cemented our love for Leonardo DiCaprio, it also really made us love blue diamonds (well, we wanted Leo to draw us like one of his French girls).

Alas, our dreams of owning such a jewel have been completely dashed by the fact they cost a lot of money. And when we say a lot, the largest one in the world was recently sold for £14.1 million ($23.8 million).

The pear-shaped diamond named The Winston Blue is 13.22 carats and also set a world auction record yesterday of £1.19 million ($2 million) per carat for a blue diamond.

The sale, which took place at the Geneva auction of Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels, at the Hôtel Beau-Rivage, came as Christie's announced its spring auction had sold a world record of £92 million ($154.2 million).

Just the day before, Sotheby's had also announced they'd topped the world record for sales, when they auctioned off some very pricey jewels too, although that was later trumped by Christie's sale of the blue diamond.

Sotheby's big sales included one of the world’s largest cut precious gems of any colour, a 100.09-carat "Graff Vivid Yellow" diamond ring.

The final bid was a staggering £9.7 million ($16.3 million) - the highest amount ever paid for a yellow diamond.

Also up for auction from Sotheby's was the Victory diamond (picture 3) a 31.34-carat diamond named to commemorate the Allied Victory in World War II.

It is one of the world's largest known round brilliant-cut diamonds weighing 103.46 carats and is worth an estimated £2.9-£4.7 million ($5-$8 million). However, this failed to sell.

Well, if no one wants it, we'll take it. Quick whip round?
