Calvin Klein champions age diversity in latest underwear ad, featuring Lauren Hutton

Calvin Klein has produced some of fashion’s most iconic underwear adverts – from Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg’s ‘90s shoot, to the star-studded My Calvins social media-led campaign for SS16.

But since designer Raf Simons joined the brand last Autumn, its ads have taken on a new direction. One which sees its newest womenswear campaign garner attention for being provocative in a totally refreshing way: its age diversity.

Directed by Sofia Coppola, the ad, which debuted on Instagram, features women between the ages of 18 and 73, with Lauren Hutton checking the highest age bracket. Also in the mix are Coppola’s long-time collaborator Kirsten Dunst, actresses Laura Harrier, Rashida Jones and Nathalie Love, and famous offspring including Maya Hawke (daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman) and Chase Sui Wonder (Anna Sui’s neice).

The full vintage-look black and white campaign video sees the women stretching and reclining in their Calvin Klein underwear and is described by the brand as ”Vignettes of what it is to be a modern woman, highlighting seven singular individuals, ages 18 to 73. Calvin Klein or Nothing at All.”

The brand also posted a video to Instagram starring Dunst, 34, in which she talks about “the flaw she learned to love.”

Speaking directly to her friend Coppola, she says: “You know one thing I remember always from working with you Sofia is you always liked my teeth. And I remember doing another film after, and they said ‘you should change your teeth’. I never did.”

The campaign is Calvin Klein’s most diverse yet and one which highlights the cast’s idiosyncrasies beautifully.
