For the past four years, I have lived in leafy Bloomsbury and discovered the joys of walking everywhere. The only downside of this area being the nightlife, I quickly started expanding my horizons to nearby Fitzrovia (north of Oxford Street and West of Tottenham Court Road). Home to a lot of tech and media companies, the pubs and bars on Charlotte St are always buzzing with people enjoying after work drinks. I like the casual atmosphere of the area and people here are generally stylish in a very laid back way. The usual silhouette is a mish-mash of high-street and vintage, with a hint of designer thrown in. The mix of people is very eclectic: students, freelancers, office workers and tourists all coexist merrily.
Now that the party season is approaching, it is quite interesting to observe people around there, especially on Friday night. There is a definite sparkle in the air, and it isn’t just because the Christmas lights are already up on Oxford street! The 1940’s and 60s were referenced in a lot of collections during the AW shows and I have already seen a lot of party pieces influenced by these two eras in the stores around town.
