Cara Delevingne addresses “shameless” Victoria’s Secret controversy on Instagram

Cara Delevingne unwittingly found herself making headlines last week, when a tabloid claimed that the Victoria’s Secret casting panel had labelled her as too “bloated” to star in their 2014 catwalk show.

However the model has since taken to Instagram to have her say on the comments, sharing a letter she recently received from the brand's chief marketing officer, Ed Razek.

Dismissing the story as a “complete fabrication”, he wrote: "Contrary to The Sun's claims, which they never bothered to fact check with me, Victoria's Secret made every effort to have you in the London show.

“The alleged casting, where supposedly disparaging remarks were made, never happened. There was NO casting. You had already been enthusiastically confirmed.”

Razek continued to explain that Delevingne’s absence from the show that year was because of “the movie you were shooting in North Carolina. It quite understandably couldn’t accommodate your absence”.

He enthusiastically added: “We tried hard to have you there. You would have made the show better, as you do anything and everything you’re involved in.”

Razek finished by inviting the Paper Towns actor to walk the catwalk at this year’s Victoria’s Secret show on 30 November, insisting there was “ no casting necessary”, before signing off with his love and deepest respect for the model-turned-actor.

Delevingne’s caption for the post was short, sweet, and to the point.

“It’s shameless to discuss women’s bodies just to sell papers,” she said, adding the hashtag “#bloated”.

She did not confirm whether or not she would be accepting the invite to walk at this year’s show, which will feature models including Lily Aldridge, Adriana Lima, and Jasmine Tookes.

Lady Gaga has also been announced to perform at the event, which will be broadcast on TV on 5 December.
