Cath Kidston is releasing a 101 Dalmatians collection

Disney’s 101 Dalmatians is, without a doubt, one of the most stylish cartoons of all time. The artwork was inspired by British cartoonist Ronald Searle, the fashion is distinctly 1950s in tone, the city of London looks absolutely beautiful, and the dogs, of course, are all decked out in monochrome polka dots.

So it’s unsurprising that Cath Kidston has created an entire new collection based on the classic animation.

That’s right: following on from the phenomenal success of their Mickey and Minnie Mouse collection in 2016, the Cath Kidston print design team have delved deep into the Disney archives to find the original character illustrations for 101 Dalmatians.

Think blush-coloured Notting Hill townhouses, cloche hats, smart postboxes, old fashioned lamp posts, and, of course, all of those beautifully dotty puppies (we’re starting to sound like Cruella now, aren’t we?).

Kidston has reworked the images with the brand’s traditional roses, creating something that feels vintage and thoroughly modern, all at once.

So far, we have no idea how those sketches have been put to use.

However, Cath Kidston has given us a sneaky preview of the new range – and used an adorable Dalmatian puppy to do it.

Taking to its Instagram page, the company shared a video of a spotted pal mooching around a kitschy new tote bag, featuring the cheeky face of original character, Patch.

The picture is captioned: “You’ll be seeing spots and falling in puppy love with the next #DisneyXCathKidston collection!

Cath Kidston x 101 Dalmatians launches online and in store 26 May.
