Having spent the last few months shying away from the limelight, pop star and National Treasure™ Cheryl Cole is back – with her own shoe collection. The range, designed by Cole and available from stylistpick.com, comprises eight styles of shoes and boots (all amusingly named with our favourite being the Byker Groove). Stylist caught up with the new designer…

This is your first foray into designing. Why shoes?

Shoes are part of your outfit that can absolutely make it. You can be wearing a plain outfit – black jeans and a black vest – but if you have a banging pair of shoes on, you’ve got a cool outfit. So, it just feels like the perfect thing for me to do. Bags maybe in the future, but definitely shoes to start with.

How many pairs do you own?

If I counted over the past few years, I could own 2,000. I have this thing that my shoes have memories. If I go to an event and wear a gorgeous pair of shoes, for me they’re attached to that night. So they’re, say, my ‘Brit Awards shoes’ and I don’t feel I can wear them again. With big red carpet events, I’ll probably only wear them once. I might have to share them at some point, give them to charity.

What was the last pair of shoes you bought?

I bought them a few days ago. McQueen; gorgeous.

What three words sum up your fashion style?

I’d say it’s more than three. One day I want to be a hippy and the next day I want to be like a spaceship and then I want to be normal. So it’s different.

If you could only wear one designer for the rest of your life, who would it be?

McQueen.
