Over the past 20 years, Christian Louboutin’s name has become shorthand for impossibly elegant shoes. Just a discreet flash of his trademark scarlet soles (which he originally painted with nail polish) can send grown women into paroxysms of delight.

In the lead up to Louboutin’s 20th anniversary next year, this glossy coffee-table book delves into the 47-year-old’s world showing intimate photographs of his life. There is also an in-depth interview with the designer about the inspiration behind his creations and he highlights which shoes have played a vital role in the history of the brand.

As a sneak preview, we asked the man himself to pick a few of his favourites (yes, like picking his favourite children). Almost as elegant as his footwear, the book is bound in pink faux-leather, has a fold-out cover and amazing pop-ups inside. You’ll be saving for your next pair of Louboutins by page six.

Christian Louboutin (£85, Rizzoli New York) is published on 5 October
