Five fresh beauty trends to try from Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week is famed for its maximalist approach and SS18 was no exception.

Backstage beauty took its lead from cobalt blocks of eyeshadow, intricate nail art and pearl-encrusted crowns (naturally).

Get set to dazzle; here are five major #MFW beauty trends to re-create at home….

Statement hair pieces

If you’re looking for hair inspiration from the shows at Milan, Dolce & Gabbana has your back.

From pearl-encrusted crowns to tiaras laced with red roses, its SS18 show was the crowning glory of elaborate hair pieces. For everyday wear, opt for a simple bejewelled hair grip paired with a berry lip.

The hair piece was not a one-trick pony, as models including Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid also sported two gilded Medusa barrettes over at Versace. So glamorous, the magpies among us can rejoice.

Sheeny lips

Moschino lips:

Moschino lips: sheen, paired with mocha-brown liner

From balmy nudes, as seen at Francesco Scognamiglio, to a slight sheen at Bottega Veneta, lips are low-key for SS18. Invest in a tinted balm or non-stick gloss to achieve this au natural lip. Simply dab on using your ring finger, for a low-maintenance yet elegant slick.

Feeling brave? Take it up a notch with a pale beige lip lined by mocha brown for a striking pout, as seen at Moschino.

The crop chop

Looking to change up your look for SS18? Why not be bold and cut those tresses. Although wigs were used backstage at Milan Fashion Week shows (for ease and speed), we predict cropped hair will be BIG next season.

Anything goes when it comes to the chop, as long as hair is in line with or above the ear lobe. Try blunt edges (Christiano Burani), choppy fringes (Moschino) or a crisp cut with an artistic flair (Armani).

Have some fun and add a chunky turquoise fringe, as seen at Fendi (above).

Azure eyes

Crimson, scarlet hues are everywhere this autumn and winter, but for next season, sea-inspired shadows are a must.

Backstage at Missoni chalky pastel shades of lilac, mint-green and turquoise were used to create an exaggerated flick. Blocks of cobalt blue and jade green were painted above the crease at Marni.

Decadent nail art

When it comes to fancy nail art, Milan delivered.

Moschino’s intricate black and white fish-net patterned nails looked like lace from afar. For those without a steady hand, try something simpler like a jagged electric stripe on bare nails, as spotted at Cristiano Burani.

The models at Byblos each had a variation of brightly-coloured nails decorated with spots and stripes. Flash back to the 90s.
