8 key catwalk trends from New York Fashion Week SS15

From contrast colours to crop tops - eight key catwalk trends from New York Fashion Week SS15.

Stylist's Executive Fashion Editor Kitty McGee and Shopping Editor Lucy Reber are reporting on the SS15 trends at New Fashion Week - keep track of their updates here.

1. MESH

Sports‎wear has been one of, if not the biggest trend of spring/summer 15 so far. We have seen technical fabrics littering the runways at so many of our favourite New York shows, the most prevalent of which has been mesh, as seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim, Alexander Wang, DKNY and Milly.

2. WHITE-OUT

Watching the shows in the thick heat at the end of a New York summer, it was welcomingly refreshing to see a wave of all white looks gracing the catwalks. Delicate chiffons whisps at Prabal Gurung , utility cool at Coach, floor length tee shirt dresses at Alexander Wang and tailored elegance at Tibi.

3. FAUX FUR

One of the more surprising trends emerging is faux fur, not an immediate choice for your spring/summer wardrobe but fun and let's face it - practical - nonetheless. Our favourite faux fur pieces were the pa‎stel coats at Coach and the star detailed styles at Tommy Hilfiger.

4. CONTRAST COLLARS

Coats and jackets have been elevated by designers for ss15 with unexpected contrast collars. With stark black against pale grey at Lacoste, brighter hues with beige at Victoria Beckham and parrot green on white (ala Dunlop green flash) at Alexander Wang.

5. UTILITY POCKETS

Sometimes it's the little details that stick out as the shows progress and something as simple as a pocket can make a big difference.

Front facing, large, flapped pockets have been spotted across the board. Not quite safari style, they lean more towards a chic urban utility style and are going to be adorning all the chicest coverups this summer.

Seen at: VB, Coach, Tibi

6. SPORTY FLATFORM SANDALS

Fashion's obsession with all things sporty has extended to shoes, with these flat form, chunky strap sandals being big news for ss15. First spotted at DKNY in glitter, this distinctive shape has been popping up across the board.

7. NUDE

We've seen nude in many colour combinations this season, from muted tones on utility style pieces at Coach and Victoria Beckham to colour clashes with reds, yellows and turquoises at DKNY - watch this space for more sightings!

8. CROP TOPS

Crop tops aren't a brand new trend but something that designers are whole heartedly embracing ‎again for next season. Our favourite crop tops are either super sporty, as at Wang and Phillip Lim, or boxy and androgynous as at Tibi.

How will you be wearing your eyeliner next season? Will culottes make another appearance on the catwalk? What do models dine on backstage? Stylist's fashion and beauty teams will have the answers to these questions and more at Stylist.co.uk/fashion-week as they report live from the shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris.
