Quick Q&A with Luke Hersheson

Hair stylist Luke Hersheson works 20-hour days during Fashion Week but hates looking tired on backstage pictures, he tells me how he revs himself up for the shows…

Stylist Beauty Editor Sam Flowers is reporting on the SS15 beauty trends, insider gossip and expert tips from backstage at New York Fashion Week

What does your Fashion Month workload entail?

"I’ll be working 20-hour days for the next two weeks. It’s not a case of turning up on the day and doing the hair, I spend hours liaising with designers beforehand, designing how the hair will look and then I have to talk my team through how to actually create the styles."

What are your must-have products?

"Making sure that my kit is fully stocked is a mammoth job. I make sure all of my team members stock up on Kerastase Volume in Powder as it's literally the best new dry shampoo on the market and L'Oreal Tecni Art Crystal Gloss is the best spray shine out there. We also order in 20kg of Hersheson hair grips and pins as we can never run out of these."

How do you prepare for the workload?

"In the run up to the shows, I try to be as healthy as possible with no dairy and no carbs for two weeks before, as I hate nothing more than seeing bad pictures of myself backstage. I’ve been doing yoga at Jivamukti and spinning at Psycle to get in shape. And I’ve just got engaged, so I’m going to try and spend some quality time with my new fiancé!

"After the shows are over you’ll find me at the tree houses in Chewton Glenn – it’s the most special of places and most epic place to unwind."

Which city does it best?

"As much as I love all the cities, my absolute favourite has to be London - its always raw and fresh and full of newness even if it’s not yet refined. Paris is great fun as it similar to London but on a bigger scale and more polished, it’s always really social there too."

How will you be wearing your eyeliner next season? Will culottes make another appearance on the catwalk? What do models dine on backstage? Stylist's fashion and beauty teams will have the answers to these questions and more at Stylist.co.uk/fashion-week as they report live from the shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris.
