Victoria Beckham: My kids now realise 'mummy has a proper job'

vbhero.jpg

Victoria Beckham has opened up about the struggles of balancing family life with her hectic work schedule - and how her children have finally begun to recognise the importance of her role as an international fashion designer.

Beckham, whose AW15 collection hits the runway at New York Fashion Week tomorrow, suggested that her children have only recently come to realise that her design work is as important as their dad's footballing career.

"It's always been about David playing football and watching David - it wasn't until they first came to the show a few seasons ago that they actually realised that mummy does have a proper job,” she said in a video interview with The New York Times.

Filmed inside Beckham's Battersea design studio, the 40-year-old appears hands-on and authoritative as she tweaks models' clothes and talks about her vision for the designs with her staff.

Lounging on a white chair in what she calls her "minimal" office, the mother-of-four says that she sometimes has to work late hours and recalls asking fellow designer Diane von Furstenberg if she ever felt guilty about being away from her children for work.

Then with a fabulous flair for mimicry, Beckham deepens her voice, throws her arm in the air and repeats DVF's emphatic reply of “Never!”

Beckham also admitted that she regularly "strips down to her knickers" to try on her designs and in a rundown of her average day in the office, she told the paper's Vanessa Friedman: "I do sometimes take all my clothes off and drape on myself. It’s just a bit more pleasant for everybody if we do it on models."
