All eyes might be on the forthcoming international fashion weeks but it’s the graduate shows where talent-spotters head to get a glimpse of the UK’s newest design stars.
Last night the London College of Fashion (LCF) held an annual show for their MA Fashion Design and Technology students in the opulent Raphael Gallery at the Victoria & Albert Museum.
Fashion fans, including Lulu Guinness, Jo Wood, Grayson Perry and Harold Tillman (chairman of the British Fashion Council and LCF alumnus) all turned out to witness the 22 graduates’ creations take a turn on the catwalk. The show was live-streamed and twenty-seven year old Matteo Molinari – a former philosophy student – won the prestigious Collection of the Year Award. His menswear show mixed modern tailoring with traditional craft and crochet while other students shortlisted for the award include Queenie Huang, Miu Jin and Jo Power – all names to know. Hasan Hejazi was a recent graduate and is now showing in Paris having become one of the industry’s hottest new names.
Afterwards the show-goers headed for a vodka-fuelled after-party at Kensington’s Polish Club. Later in the year Graduate Fashion Week (which celebrates its 20th Anniversary on 5- 8th June) is where the country’s BA students will show their work.
The Fashion Design and Technology student’s collections are also on show until February 9th at a free exhibition at Victoria House. For more information visit fashion.arts.ac.uk.
