Four-year-old girl re-creates celebrity dresses from paper and tape

Watch out, Ralph Lauren, Valentino and Dior - a new talent has taken the fashion world by storm, and she's just four years old.

Adorable Mayhem (not her real name) has taken to re-creating her favourite red carpet gowns of the season in paper, tape and tin foil form. And we have to say, she's pretty skilled for one so young.

Mayhem's mum Angie has posted the results of her daughter's work on Instagram . The photos show the the youngster modelling an array of her own superb creations, from a paper and tape version of the Valentino music note dress Katy Perry wore to the Grammys this year to her own take on Lupita Nyong'o's Ralph Lauren red cape dress showcased at the Golden Globes.

Mayhem's take on Jennifer Lawrence's Dior gown at the Globes

Jennifer Lawrence's Dior number at the Globes and one of Korto Momolu's emerald green runway ensembles are also honoured with the cut and paste treatment that has become Mayhem's trademark. What's more, she doesn't get much help from the adults.

"Mayhem constructs a lot more than most people would probably believe," her mum Angie told the Huffington Post.

"That's one of the best things about this project, I see her learning new skills every single day. At this point, she knows exactly how many sheets of construction paper she needs to make herself a top and a bottom. She can lay the entire thing out and tape it together all by herself. Definitely, the more complex designs have more of my time invested, but she's literally always beside me learning something new if she's not tearing or taping or gluing while I am."

Mayhem does Korto Momolu, runway style

Mayhem originally started experimenting with making dresses from paper around nine months ago, after tiring of the usual dress-up routine. Mayhem's mum suggested that instead of finding old clothes in a box, they make them instead - an idea Mayhem immediately took to.

We love Mayhem's translation of Lupita Nyong'o's Ralph Lauren red cape dress at the Globes

"After we made our first paper dress, Mayhem requested another the very next day," says Angie. "Then another the day after that. And no one is more surprised than I am, that she still wants to make them nearly nine months later. I have no idea if it will continue, but as long as she wants to make them, we'll keep doing it."

Mayhem uses mainly tissue paper, wrapping paper and gift bags for her creations, but aluminium foil, silk scarves and tulle also get a look in.
