Intern's 8,000 mile round-trip

Think the life of an intern is all tea-making and photocopying? Not so for one lucky worker at fashion house Proenza Schouler, who was recently flown 8,000 miles across the Atlantic and back again - just to collect some fabric.

In the lead up to New York Fashion Week which started today (8 September) - and with Hurricane Katia seriously delaying designers' schedules - the intern was asked to make the trip from the label's New York offices to Italy to collect the precious cargo. Relaying the unususal task to The New York Times' On The Runway blog, the label's designer, Lazaro Hernandez (pictured) said, “She thought it was so glamorous to fly to Italy.”

However, the work experience needn't have packed her sunglasses and sightseeing guide, as they didn't even get to leave the airport. Instead, as soon as she landed she was handed a package containing the fabric, and boarded the next flight back to the Big Apple.

The label, which counts Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth, Liv Tyler, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer Aniston among its fans, is due to show its spring/summer 2012 collection on Wednesday 14 September.

"Managing international deliveries" is certainly an impressive addition to any intern's CV...
