“It's like a mini-wedding all over again”: bride reveals why she keeps wearing her wedding dress

It's a universal issue that most brides face once their weddings are over: what do you do with the dress?

They're often too fancy for daywear or too much of a statement for restaurants and bars, but with the average bride spending £1,098 on her wedding dress, it seems a shame to resign the gown to an eternal life of gathering dust bunnies in the back of a wardrobe.

So we take our proverbial hat off to Samantha Burns, a bride who loves her wedding dress so much that she wears it once a year on her wedding anniversary.

Burns, who has so far worn her wedding dress to play golf, eat pancakes and take a sunset cruise, told Today she has a "wedding dress bucket list" of places she hopes to wear the white gown.

"Nothing would say 'happy anniversary' better than an African safari trip in my dress for a milestone anniversary," she said. "We're a very outdoorsy and athletic couple, so maybe even zip lining through a rainforest one day or skydiving."

The Boston-based mental health advisor, who married her husband on 10 August 2014, revealed her partner initially didn't believe her when she told him she loved her wedding dress so much she would be wearing it on each of their anniversaries.

"He thought I was joking when I first told him. When he surprised me with a trip for our first anniversary, I told him to make sure I'd be able to wear my dress to whatever we were doing.

"He laughed, but I brought the dress along with me."

Although Burns admits her dress hasn't exactly stayed in a flawless condition, she is adamant that she would rather enjoy wearing it than keep it stashed away.

"It's collected some stains on the bottom, but I much prefer this than keeping it in a pristine box that will never see the light of day," she wrote in Brides magazine.

Plus, she believes there is some important science behind the benefits of wearing the dress time and time again, as it helps to keep the spark alive between her and her husband.

"Activities like this activate the reward center in your brain that boost dopamine," she explained. "And when my husband sees me time and time again in my wedding dress, it's an extra-special way to connect with him and maintain that long-lasting bond."

We look forward to seeing where the wedding dress gets worn next...
