LFW Day 1: Antoni & Alison


Pulling a crowd at 9am on the inaugural day of fashion week is not to be sniffed at. A smart tactic, then, is to send out firmly tongue-in-cheek invitations, asking you to go and see 'Models walking up and down in dresses'.

It's exactly this kind of irreverence that underscores London Fashion Week, kicked off in suitably playful style by East End design duo Antoni & Alison.

Magnifying everything from sequins to stitches, their effortless silk-chiffon T-shirt dresses were made fun by offbeat patterns and a bold colour palette of Cadbury purple, emerald and cobalt. Staples, marabou, glitter, even kids' doodles were realised in print and juxtaposed against zoomed-in heritage fabrics - a postmodern ode to arts and crafts done in the kind of jubilant, cut 'n' paste style that perfectly represents London fashion itself.
