Hurrah! Everyone's favourite drama based in an ad agency is back! That's right Mad Men returns this Wednesday.

Season 7 looks set to take off where we left the cast last, and while we can't wait to find out what will be happen to Don Draper and co, we're also looking forward to ogling all the new clothes.

This is because Mad Men's costuming is a thing of wonder. The outfits enhance the characters and the look of the show and are always period perfect. They're also a source of fashion inspiration for everyone from Miuccia Prada to the girl who sits next to you at work. Take a look at our choices for Mad Men's top fashion moments. We can't wait to see what's in store for us this season.

Don't agree? Tell us in the comments.

Mad Men, Sky Atlantic, 10pm, from Wednesday

The first time we ever saw your face

Oh Joanie. Everyone, but everyone, loves the Joan Holloway/ Joan Harris look and her office style is remarkably consistent. So, how to choose a highlight? We’ve gone for Joan’s first ever appearance, season one, episode one: a form-fitting green dress with a pencil-style skirt.

The classic Betty Draper

Even in the early series, Betty had a range of looks. She dressed up for nights in town with Don and wore frilled housecoats as she and her neighbour Francine sat smoking and gossiping. But in the minds of most Betty is dressed in feminine colours with a fitted waist and a full skirt and this picnic outfit from season one is a perfect example. Please also note the wonderful shape of Betty’s sunhat (you see her pick it up at around 1.43).

Trudy Campbell and her astounding hats

Trude is a wife, not one of the office girls who earn their own money, but she is still young, several years younger than Betty, and her dress sense shows that. Trudy favours bright colours and lot of print and if there’s a hat that’s wobbling between berserk and fabulous, well, Trudy will have it on her head. Even during troubled times (like her season two visit to a fertility clinic), she’ll look fresh and zingy (watch from 0.38 seconds in and see what we mean about the hat?)

“Men these days expect their wives to be as dazzling as their mistresses”

Betty is transformed by her break in Italy, putting aside her wholesome, Doris Day pastels for something a bit more Sophia Loren – an outfit which would be considered too racy for Westchester County, but that works wonderfully in Rome. Betty looks sexy, not just beautiful.

Joan c’est magnifique

This is a marvellous scene all round for Joan (and actress Christina Hendricks), where she plays the accordion, sweetly, despite being furious and disappointed. Joan rarely wears black, but this dress - especially with its vibrant roses – makes her stand out from the polite blues and creams of the other women. Standing out is Joan’s particular brand of magic and this is her at her spellbinding best.

Megan got legs

Zou bisou bisou, mon Dieu qu'ils sont doux.” Megan’s birthday song in season five might have left Don embarrassed, but we were impressed. Megan has fully embraced the Sixties, flirting her way through the Ye-ye pop song and being the first character to embrace the miniskirt. This dress is super short (especially by the standards of the time), but the lack of colour shows Megan’s sophisticated side.

Cutting it with slacks

Nobody does an at-home outfit like Megan Draper. She has a very nice line in tailored slacks and attractive jumpers (and has anyone else noticed they make her look slightly like Don’s season one mistress Midge?). Anyway, get your slacks envy at 6.20 and 12.08.
