Maternity brand comes under fire for 'fat shaming' pregnant women

As if you don't have enough to worry about when you're pregnant, now clothing companies are cashing in on it by selling t-shirts that might make you question your growing and changing body.

Popular clothing brand, A Pea in the Pod, has come under fire for its maternity 'fat shaming' t-shirts.

The offending items from the maternity wear company included one t-shirt with the slogan 'Wake Me Up When I'm Skinny' and another with the words 'I Miss My Waist'.

As a result of criticism on social media, the company decided to take the clothing off their site.

Their parent company, the Philadelphia-based Destination Maternity Corporation, said in a statement Friday that the firm has responded quickly to the controversy.

"We have taken immediate reaction to remove a T-shirt from our stores and website that was perceived as offensive. We apologise to anyone we may have unintentionally disappointed. We strive to offer products that celebrate pregnancy and are committed to supporting the health and wellness of moms-to-be and their families."
