Our fashion director Alexandra Fullerton lives out her dream afternoon: Creating a pair of limited edition Stylist shoes with legendary “rock’n’roll cobbler” Terry de Havilland.
“Designing with Terry was phenomenal,” says Stylist’s Alexandra. “His anecdotes about Kate Moss were hilarious, and I created a shoe that can be bought!”
As well as the Stylist shoe, on sale on 8 August at my-wardrobe.com (£375), two more of Terry’s iconic styles will also be available. The Margaux wedge and the Mimi court shoe have both been created in exclusive colours. Here, Alexandra explains the creative process and how she made the Stylist shoe.
1. Colours
There are so many out-dated style rules but I like nothing better than breaking them. Black and navy is a traditional ‘don’t’ but actually looks incredibly chic. These shoes work because there is a contrast in textures between the matte black suede and the glossy faux snakeskin in navy.
2. Heritage
Terry has created shoes for Kate Moss, David Bowie and Bianca Jagger so I wanted to mix this very cool rock heritage with a more polished look. The platform shape is a classic Terry style but the black and navy colourway adds femininity.
3. Style
Seeing the shoe transformed from a vague idea right through to an actual pair of shoes was magical. They’ll look great with one of the season’s new trouser suits, a leather pencil skirt or skinny rock’n’roll denim.
4. Heel
At Terry’s studio, my first task was to try everything on. I was instantly drawn to the fin detail on some heels – the points look like thorns, perfect for this season’s dark romance.
