Muslim blogger launches inclusive range of hijabs to suit all skin tones

It's been a long time coming, but the fashion and beauty industries are slowly inching towards becoming more inclusive.

From Christian Louboutin's range of nude pumps to suit all skin colours, to Naja's line of nude lingerie - available in seven different shades - change is finally afoot.

And now a Muslim blogger has added a collection of inclusive hijabs into the mix.

Habiba Da Silva, a 22-year-old Birmingham University graduate, has launched a collection of hijabs, called "Skin", designed to suit all skin colours.

Writing on her website, Da Silva said the collection was "inspired by togetherness amongst different types of people", and that she hoped it would "break up the trend of having brands with clothing dressed on only lighter skinned models".

Currently available in four shades, the Skin collection is based on the idea of marriage, with Da Silva noting on her site that this is "not necessarily as a bond between a man and a woman" but rather "a bond between people from different backgrounds and cultures".

The lightest shade is called "Zaffeh", which translates in Arabic to "wedding march", while the darkest shade is "Aure", which translates as the Hausa word for "marriage".

The other two shades are called "Aroosadda", the Somalii word for "bride", and "Rukhasti", which translates as "sending off" in Urdu.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, Da Silva, who is of Lebanese and Brazilian descent, explained her reasons for launching the collection.

“I’ve always been interested in cultures, since I come from two different cultures myself," she said. "It’s always been something that I’ve always been passionate about.”

The hijabs, which are priced at £20 each, are currently sold out.

However, Da Silva plans to restock next week as well as expand the collection, so watch this space.
