Nike releases its first ever plus-size fashion range

Nike has finally taken steps to fill the most obvious gap in its sportswear offering and released its first ever plus-size range for women.

The new collection, made up of 26 pieces, ranges from sizes X to 3XL and includes training tops, leggings, T-shirts and shorts.

Even better, the launch includes sports bras up to size 38E.

A statement released by the brand said, “Nike recognises that women are stronger, bolder and more outspoken than ever. In today's world, sport is no longer something that she does, it's who she is. The days where we have to add 'female' before 'athlete' are over. She is an athlete, period.

“And having helped fuel this cultural shift, we celebrate these athletes' diversity, from ethnicity to body shape."

The plus-size campaign is fronted by Influencers Grace Victory and Danielle Vanier, who both took to Instagram and their blogs to celebrate the brand’s new range.

“Nike are a brand I've been wearing since I could probably walk and I'm so so happy that they've decided to extend their sizes to fit the bigger girl (aka me lol), but without compromising on style or the classic Nike branding,” Victory wrote on her blog.

“When it comes to shopping or running errands, comfort for me is absolutely key - leggings, trainers and a warm piece of outerwear is my uniform.”

“I'm beyond proud to have been chosen to collaborate with such a huge brand,” Vanier added on Instagram.

Unsurprisingly, the launch of the new collection was met with a hugely positive reaction on social media.

“Nike now has plus size workout clothes and honestly, I haven't been this happy in a while,” wrote one user on Twitter.

“I know it's not perfect, but it's a start!” added another.
