The Duchess of Cambridge turns 31 today (9 January) - so we thought we'd take the opportunity to revisit some of Kate Middleton's most stylish looks. From the navy Issa dress she wore for her engagement photos to high street favourites like Reiss, Whistles and LK Bennett, alongside Kate's many talents, she has the ability to make clothes sell. Whatever she wears, women buy. So here's to Kate, and another year of elegant, perfectly tailored (and always occasion-appropriate) fashion choices.

Check out her 10 greatest fashion hits to date below - and read our feature about why we all want to believe in Kate.

1. The engagement dress

Kate wore a dress by Issa to announce her engagement to Prince William on 16 November 2010. Her sparkling engagement ring is the 18-carat sapphire and diamond ring worn by his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales.

2. The bridal gown

Following months of endless speculation about what Kate's wedding dress will look like, and more importantly who'll design it, all was finally revealed as she stepped on to the red carpet outside Westminster Abbey on 29 April 2011. Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen had designed the ivory gown, featuring intricate lace appliqué detail, in close collaboration with the bride herself. The elegant style drew many comparisions to the dress Grace Kelly wore for her fairytale wedding to the Prince of Monaco.

3. The Reiss dress

Sporting a tan from her Seychelles honeymoon, Kate opted for a beige bandage dress from Reiss, paired with an Anya Hindmarch clutch, to welcome Michelle Obama in London during the US President's official visit. Her £175 Shola dress was a sell-out, with 20 dresses reportedly bought online just two minutes after Kate's photo was released - eventually causing Reiss' website to crash.

4. The Erdem dress

Flying the flag for British designers abroad, Kate wore a gorgeous Erdem pre-autumn/winter 11-12 dress, featuring a sexy side-slit, during an official tour of Canada in July 2011.

5. Alexander McQueen ensemble

Back in Alexander McQueen again, The Duchess of Cambridge wore a double-breasted coat and navy dress to present medals to Irish Guards at Victoria Barracks. She accessorised the military-inspired coat with a navy hat and a gold shamrock brooch - the emblem of the Irish Guards.

6. Jenny Packham gown

Kate opted for a glamorous sequinned gown by Jenny Packham for the ARK (Absolute Return for Kids) gala in London. Mixing designer and high street style, The Duchess paired her dress with LK Bennett shoes, Links of London earrings and a Prada clutch.

7. Mellow yellow

With navy and neutral tones like white and beige being Kate's go-to colours, it was lovely to see her looking radiant in a sunny yellow dress by Jenny Packham last summer.

8. Military chic

Wearing an Alexander McQueen nautical-style blouse and wool skirt, Kate brought some chic military styling to the site of last year's Birmingham riots.

9. The maple leaf hat

Where most 30-year-olds would shy away from elaborate headwear, Kate dives in with both feet, consistently topping off outfits with an eye-catching hat. For Canada Day in 2011, The Duchess wore a red hat featuring a maple-leaf decoration as a sartorial nod to the host country. She paired it with a white Reiss dress (the same dress she wore for her first official engagement portrait photo shot by Mario Testino) and red shoes.

10. Nautical knit

A relaxed, but nevertheless still chic, outfit was the order of the day for Kate on a trip to Prince Edward Island in Canada. Her nautical-inspired, cable knit dress from Alexander McQueen has also been spotted on Sarah Jessica Parker. SJP wore a blue version in 2006, when her husband Matthew Broderick received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
