Pirelli calendar archives: The most provocative images from 1964 to now

In the 50 years since its launch, the Pirelli calendar has become famed worldwide for its provocative images of (mostly) nude women. Shot by prestigious photographers and never sold, but simply distributed to a select 20,000 "VIPs", the exclusive calendar became synonymous with sex.

Until yesterday, when the 2016 calendar featuring (mostly) clothed women, selected for their CVs rather than their bodies and photographed by Annie Leibowitz, was unveiled in London.

Here we delve into the Pirelli archive and take a look back at some of the most beautiful, thought-provoking and evocative photographs from the calendar's history, featuring famous faces such as Jennifer Lopez, Cindy Crawford and Christy Turlington.
