Savvy shoppers, this Primark item is selling for over double its original price on eBay

Primark was, once upon a time, our one-stop shop for affordable wardrobe basics and… well, and fancy dress. But, over the past few years, the high street retailer has really come into its own, with fashionistas clamouring over its chic (and oh-so-cheap) dresses, separates, and shoes.

But none have had quite as much of an impact as the store’s latest must-have item.

Yup, we are, of course, talking about that blue-and-white gingham dress.

The mid-length summer dress – complete with on-trend fluted sleeves and nipped-in waist – came on to the market just over a month ago, sending shoppers into positive meltdown mode.

Why? Well, because the Dorothy-esque dirndl frock is guaranteed to “transport your gal pals to Emerald City, in a totes jel tornado,” according to Primark Features.

People definitely took them at their word, with plenty pre-ordering the £15 gown online, to ensure they wouldn’t miss out. And it seems as if they weren’t being overly cautious, either. According to The Liverpool Echo, the dress has already sold out in a number of UK stores – and Primark will not be re-stocking it in the UK.

Ever.

Did you just hear something like shattering glass? Yup, that’s the sound of hearts breaking all over the country.

However there is a way to get your mitts on the must-have dress – although it involves paying a fair bit more than the promised £15.

That’s right – where there’s a sold-out item, there’s a score of savvy shoppers just waiting to swoop in and make some serious cash.

It seems as if plenty of people, predicting the dress’ widespread appeal, stocked up while they had the chance – and now they’re peddling them on eBay for double the price.

Some are even demanding £40 for the £15 frock – and they’re racking up the bids for it, too.

So we suppose this means that the world is now divided into four categories: there are those who bought the dress in time, and fully intend to wear it themselves this summer. Then there are those who, having failed to snag the frock of their dreams, are forced to think about paying through the nose for it on eBay. The third (and possibly the most enviable) category, of course, is made up of all those shrewd and calculating eBay sellers.

And then there’s the fourth category: those who had never heard of the dress until now, and really can’t see what all the fuss is about.
