The first weeks of Donald Trump’s presidency have been, while not wholly unexpected, devastating for many.
His controversial stances – on religion, immigration, women’s rights and climate change to name but a few – are already reverberating around the world, prompting millions of people to march against him and make their voices heard on a global scale.
And they’re doing the latter in a myriad of ways. Now, following the success of the Nasty Woman t-shirts – which have raised more than $125,000 (£99,500) to date for Planned Parenthood, an organisation Trump is pushing to defund – another clothing range is set to support the causes the newest leader of the free world threatens.
Ethical clothing label Reformation has released its Action Tees range of five slogan t-shirts, each benefitting one of three organisations: American Civil Liberties Union (ALCU), Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and Planned Parenthood, the US' biggest abortion provider and family planning service.
The t-shirts cost $50 (£40) each, and $30 (£24) from each sale will be donated to the causes.
The company says in a statement: “Reformation is a company built by women and immigrants dedicated to protecting the environment. So we've made a collection of 5 t-shirts to stand up for our beliefs.
“Pick your t-shirt, pick your action.”
The pieces feature slogans such as ‘more trees less walls’, ‘my meow my choice’ and, one of our favourites, ‘save the earth, it’s the only planet with Meryl’ – a reference to Meryl Streep’s storming speech against Trump and his retaliatory tweet calling her “overrated”.
Reformation founder and CEO Yael Aflalo tells bustle.com: “We believe in women's collective power and their right to make their own choices. We believe that America's strength is our diversity, and that our continued economic and ideological success depends on compassionate and open immigration policies. We believe that climate change is the biggest challenge facing our generation and is a direct result of human activities.
“We have limited resources and limited reach but we will use the resources and reach we have to stand up for these beliefs."
The brand is US-based but UK delivery is free (though subject to duty fees) and though it won’t be selling the t-shirts, you might be interested to know there’s a pop-up shop in London at 61-63 Monmouth Street selling other Reformation goodies until 8 March.
With the website already marking the five tops as ‘waitlist’, here’s hoping the huge demand will see them stocking up soon.
