SpongeBob Squarepants goes fashion

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea...Karl Lagerfeld?!

No, Kaiser Karl hasn't decamped from Paris to more watery climes - he's just one of a few fashion icons who have been given a cartoon makeover, courtesy of Dutch artist Mike Frederiqo. So children's favourite Spongebob Squarepants, the friendly yellow sponge who lives in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom, becomes Karl Lagerfeld, complete with miniature Steiff bear and Spongebob doll.

Lagerfeld is clearing channelling the life aquatic in this season's collections (remember Florence Welch popping out of a sea shell?), but check out these other stylish sponges. Coco Chanel, with her strings of pearls (easy to find underwater) and monochrome look...

...and Marc Jacobs, covered in tattoos.

With an 'under the sea' theme to many of this season's collections, no cartoon has ever been so on trend.
