We just can't wait for Stylist Live, our four-day festival of cocktails, culture, catwalks and conversation hosted by Edith Bowman and Dawn O’Porter on Thursday 15 – Sunday 18 October 2015.

If you buy a ticket for Friday 16th October, you can enrol in the School of Stylist and join Stylist's very own staff, as they impart their career wisdom, starting with editor-in-chief Lisa Smosarski at 10.45am, followed by features director Lucy Foster, fashion director Alexandra Fullerton, associate editor (beauty) Joanna McGarry and Stylist.co.uk's editor-in-chief Maggie Hitchins.

In the final weeks running-up to the event, we will be revealing the top tips from the team to make it in the industry, to give you a sneak-peek of what's to come.

This week, we spoke with Alexandra Fullerton, Stylist’s Fashion Director, and she told us her top fashion tips.

What makes a star fashion intern?

"A star intern always does things before the team even knows they need to be done. They go above and beyond. The other important element is a great attitude. I look for someone that is helpful and bright, not someone who is slinking around in the background."

What is your fail-safe outfit when you're in a rush?

"An immaculately cut trouser suit. I’d wear it with a t-shirt underneath and a pair of plain court shoes so it doesn’t look stuffy."

"A dress is also great and easy – you can accessorise it up or down. My must-have item is a denim dress."

How can someone create the perfect capsule wardrobe?

"The most important thing is to choose everything in tonal shades - for example, navy, pale blue and grey. Pick three colours and that will make getting dressed really easy."

What are the three items every woman should have in her wardrobe?

"Number one is the perfect pair of jeans. The key is to get jeans that fit well and are first and foremost flattering. Don't try and wear the trendiest style if they don't suit your body shape."

"A crisp white shirt is essential."

"And finally, I think everyone should have something fun and frivolous in their wardrobe that makes them smile every time they put it on - whether that be crazy tights or a cocktail skirt in brocade -  it's for your own happiness."

What does style mean to you?

"Once you’ve learned the difference between fashion (seasonal trends) and style (everlasting) then you know what good style is."

Your favourite secret shopping destination?

"J & M Davidson is the insider go-to for anonymous, timeless and fabulous quality leather accessories bags that never date."

Your one tip for surviving fashion week?

"Try to bank as much sleep before fashion week as is humanly possible. You will need every second of rest!"

What makes a great fashion shoot?

"Magazine pages still have the power to offer a fantasy world that you can get into, so its all about a narrative - a character that you can get into a believe or a location that can take you out of your mundane daily life."

And, finally, what's your one big tip for making it in this industry?

"I didn’t get a degree so I'd say to someone starting out not to worry too much about qualifications. What's important is work experience and contacts."

It's only one month to go until Stylist Live and you can meet Alex in person and find out everything you need to know to become the next big fashion editor.

Later the same day (Friday 16 October 15.30), the Stylist fashion team will be sharing the key trends for AW15, which will then be brought to life by your favourite high-street brands on the Swarovski catwalk.

Get your tickets here...but be quick, they're selling-out fast.
