The only fashion accessory you need this summer, according to Instagram

summer (1).jpg

Summer in the UK is always confusing: one moment you’re sweltering, the next you’re frozen, and then you’re soaked by a sudden rainstorm. Before you know it, you’re back to applying sun cream under a scorching evening sun which you hope will go some way towards drying your sodden locks.

All in all, it’s an incredibly difficult season to dress for, because the only thing we know we’ll definitely need is a big old Mary Poppins bag to stash away all of our layers, umbrellas, rain macs, sandals, sunglasses, wet weather shoes, hats, gloves, scarves and the like. We envy the person who looks effortlessly stylish at this time of year – and we quietly wonder which weather updates they’re using to plan their outfits so effectively, because we want in on that.

But, no matter what we’re wearing, be it woolly jumper, sleeveless silk dress, or classic white shirt, we can all add a summery twist with this season’s must-have accessory.

We did some careful Instagram analysis (or, y’know, we spent a lot of time scrolling incessantly through hashtags), and it seems as if there’s one particular accessory that has caught the eyes of fashion bloggers, celebrities and savvy shoppers everywhere.

In fact, eagle-eyed Love Island viewers will have probably spotted Camilla and Gabby working the outrageously kitschy trend on the ITV2 show earlier this month.

We’re talking about tassel earrings.

Decidedly more fun and kitschy than the norm, these statement earrings have clearly won people over with their dramatic shape and flirty fringe.

And, to be honest, we can see the appeal: after all, they’re guaranteed to add a pop of colour and sunshine to any outfit – not to mention elevate any boring old ‘I don’t know what to wear today’ ensemble to entirely new levels.

If you’re planning on stealing this style, we recommend keeping your hairstyle as simple as possible, and all other accessories to a minimum  – that way, your tassels can do all the talking for you.

But there are plenty of different styles out there to choose from, not to mention different ways to wear them with your day-to-day gear.

Check it out:

If you’re a fan of the tassel trend, plenty of high street stores are currently stocking their own little twist on it – and you can shop our pick of the best by scrolling through the gallery below.
