English Heritage

It’s all about the English Heritage trend this season and that means one thing - tweed! This look is so classic and versatile - it will look as good on the city streets as it does on country walks.

For separates it’s all about sporting jackets, wax coats and coloured bottoms. Gilets are also key to the strong English look and great for layering. Look for details such as elbow patches and quilting to add interest and invest in some sturdy winter boots – classic riding styles will see you through many a winter.

For a more fashion-driven look, think nerdy seventies/eighties geek chic for a cool retro feel. Patterned knitwear is central to this style, so hunt down Fair Isle pieces, tank tops and novelty jumpers.

The Empress

Separates are back with a vengeance for the Christmas party season and the exotic Empress trend will really help you make a statement. If you thought that bold and bright jackets were the sole preserve of spring/summer fashion, think again: This season, as well as warm and practical winter jackets, statement pieces come printed, embellished and crafted from luxurious fabric and there’s no such thing as too much! Pair with printed trousers for a directional look.

This trend is all about fabrics and opulence in all forms. To make the look wearable, make sure the shapes are quite simple, whether it’s a well-cut trouser, a shell top or sheath dress. Let the fabric do the work for you.
