Kate "Knows how to behave and how to dress for any circumstance"

The Duchess of Cambridge turned heads recently when she wore a deep maroon skirt suit to Middle Temple. The label? Not one of her favourite British designers - Alice Temperley, Alexander McQueen, or even Jenny Packham - but effortlessly chic French brand Paule Ka.

And it turns out Kate's appreciation of the label is more than mutual. Stylist spoke to the founder, Serge Cajfinger as Paule Ka's new store on Mount Street opened, to see what he had to say on the Duchess's style.

"The Duchess is young, beautiful and has a real sense of elegance" he told us." I am very happy she wears Paule Ka, she is both a Princess and a modern woman. She knows how to behave and how to dress for any circumstance - which could be the definition of the Paule Ka woman"

He added that British women in general have great style because "They know how to play with fashion" and that although labels like Paule Ka are "somehow the ambassador of Parisian elegance", today "elegance does not have any frontier".

Aside from the Duchess, which other British women would he like to see in his designs? Model Alice Dellal, who wore Serge's "very first Paule Ka little Black dress and its re-edition. I have really enjoyed seeing her in my creations. But generally, I always love seeing elegant women in Paule Ka with a good strength of character, it's very rewarding"

If Kate continues her love affair with Paule Ka, Serge has plenty of suggestions for what she should add to her new season wardrobe:

"I love the graphics of the two-tone rib-knit pullover we shot for the advertising campaign (see below). The dual-fabric dresses in wool and merino wool which is a real Paule Ka signature are also a must-have for the winter season. From the Black Carpet collection I would suggest the short graphic black and white evening dress embroidered with small, medium and big Swarovski crystals"

And for the rest of us? Serge recommends the versatile "leopard and crocodile printed iPad pochette, which transforms into an evening bag" (pictured below). Sounds très chic.

We reckon the Duchess would love one of these ladylike dresses from the A/W 2012 collection - stay tuned to our daily red carpet round-up to see if she wears one...

The new Paule Ka store is open now in Mayfair, 19 Mount Street.
