River Island have shunned the regular runway to show their Autumn/Winter 2012 Chelsea Girl collection – choosing instead to model the designs in miniature, on the cutest catwalk show we’ve ever seen (and that includes the various dogs and puppies at the Mulberry show).
Created in conjunction with arts and crafts design range, Harumika, the catwalk show featured 10 outfits modelled on 21cm high and 4cm wide mannequins, on a one metre long rotating runway. To put that into perspective, each mini model measured an eighth of the 5'11" height of an average runway model!
The creator of these lilliputian outfits was 22 year old fashion designer, Christina Ruby Walton, who made all 10 designs for the show under the guise of the Chelsea Girl Design team.
Each was a mini-me version of the fluffy jumpers, faux fur coats, and tapestry bombers in the main collection – even intricate accessories like a sequin satchel were recreated.
Chelsea Girl Senior Designer, Lucy Moller, said that the team were “overwhelmed with the skill that Christina has used to miniaturise our designs so accurately, creating a truly innovative way of displaying our new collection."
