Literally everyone is searching this Urban Outfitters must-have trend

Now that we’ve said hello to September, we’re officially in the presence of autumn.

And while we’re going to miss the longer evenings and the buzzing beer gardens, we have to admit there’s something satisfying about wrapping up in a warm new coat, snuggling on the sofa in our knitwear and, of course, watching the winter fashions unfold. Basically, we’re absolute suckers for autumnal trends – and it seems we’re not alone.

High street giant Urban Outfitters has granted us a sneak peek at the trend shoppers have been going wild for this autumn. And it appears that over 1,000 of us every week are dying to get our hands on the new season’s ultimate pieces.

But what, we hear you ask, is it? What is the trend that those who favour golden leaves and crisp mornings are yearning for?

Well, as the team at Urban Outfitters tell us, their website has been absolutely flooded with customers searching the words “cord” and “corduroy”. In fact, the high street favourite reported that their online store received over 1,200 searches by shoppers looking for items that fit into the textured trend last week alone, with expectations that these searches will continue to rise as September continues.

We'd be dancing like that too if we had a pair of corduroy trousers

According to Urban Outfitter’s womenswear and menswear design director, Lizzie Dawson, pastel colours are still set to rule throughout the darker months.

“Corduroy is one of our key fabrications for AW17 at Urban Outfitters, acting as the perfect nod to the revival of the 70’s trend,” she tells stylist.co.uk. “Currently our bestsellers are the BDG Mom cord trousers in autumnal shades of sand and black, however, we have also seen a surge of demand for the ice pink and sky-blue colourways.

“Injections of shades of sand, rose, stone and new hues of blue can also be seen on the reinvented BDG trucker jacket and winter pelmet skirt giving an updated and autumnal vibe to the corduroy range.”

And we can see why. With its soft touch, snuggly texture and warmth-preserving thickness, it’s a reoccurring trend of the season.

And this year, the American brand has even decided to release some of their best-selling styles specifically in corduroy, just to appease our fashion whimsy. For example, the in-house-brand BDG’s Mom jeans will now be available in a new cord style, perfect for the winter.

We know you’re probably twitching to get to the end of this article so you can go out and buy some corduroy pieces for yourself, so as a thank you for sticking with us this far and not creating a you-shaped hole in the side of your local Urban Outfitters, here’s our five favourite corduroy pieces to get you on the trend bandwagon and through the winter.

BDG Corduroy Jacket

Urban Outfitters

They say: Basics-with-a-twist corduroy jacket brought to you by UO's own modern-classics label, BDG. In a relaxed, oversize construction for a casual-cool vibe. Finished with a button-down front, two button-flap pockets at the front and slit pockets at the side.

We say: With a jacket this fabulous, the millennial pink trend is sure to never die. We love the oversized shape, which means we can throw it on top of just about everything, as well as layer underneath when it gets really chilly.

BDG Mom Sky Blue Corduroy Jeans

Urban Outfitters

They say: An ‘80s classic in authentic rigid denim. Sits high on the waist, with a relaxed fit that tapers at the ankle. Crafted from a cosy corduroy with a turned-up leg. Features a button-zippered fly and 5 pockets. Complete with distressing for a perfectly worn-in look.

We say: Just like normal Mom jeans, but better – what’s not to love? The sky blue colour brings a normcore feel and the high-waisted style is as flattering as ever. You can also get them in black, which let’s face it, is a wardrobe staple.
